“Mexico is starting to receive OEM’s natural gas powered buses. Although the units cost a little more, the economic benefits and international natural gas prices make it an attractive option for mass transit operations,” the official said, according to a report published by El Economista.
In the first phase, during 2013, it is expected that the dealers will become public limited companies, while a prepaid card system will be implemented. “With this efficiency and financial projections, companies can renew its fleets and plan a progressive change with market conditions and CNG price. This will contribute to reduce pollution and favour carriers’ economy,” Moreno Cortés argued.
Several Mexican states are interested in incorporating CNG into in its fleet, specifically in public transportation. In this sense, the local bus manufacturer Dina has recently revealed that 50 NGVs will be delivered to a private operator located in the interior in early 2013.
