For this year, it is estimated that 6,000 new vehicles will be converted to natural gas, “60% of which will belong to public services and 40% to private sector,” Fabio Alveiro Franco López, manager of the CNG marketing area at the company, told GNV Latinoamérica.
“EPM decided to enter natural gas vehicles business in order to join and become a major player in the sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility strategy, promoted by the Municipality of Medellin,” the executive said.
With the strong conviction that conversions should be encouraged, the company launched the EPM voucher, “which awards an amount of up to $1,030,000 (approximately USD 540) for public service vehicles and up to $ 450,000 (USD 236) for private vehicles,” said the representative of the Medellin-based public utility EPM.
The company’s policy on the search for clean mobility starts in its own group. “Currently, EPM has in its fleet about 200 vehicles running on CNG. It is an essential condition that vehicles being replaced or acquired must operate on natural gas and gasoline,” Franco López explained.
