Biomethane powered vehicles will be delivering Coca-cola branded soft drinks to the London 2012 Olympic Games, of which the company is an official sponsor. It “will help us deliver our green objectives,” said Manning at the UK AD & Biogas event carried out in Birmingham.
CCE is already trialling this fuel on one of its trucks, a 21-tonne vehicle, which was on display at the show. This “local” fleet delivers drinks to smaller operations such as town schools and hospitals. But in the long-term, the company is looking to target its 44-tonne truck fleet, which is mainly used to transport products around on a mass scale.
It is worth mentioning that the company has built a special refuelling station at its distribution facility in Enfield, Greater London, to aid the trial, and is sourcing the biogas from a landfill site in Surrey, reported the environmental news site Edie.net.
