The biomethane Mercedes-Benz E-Class limousines deliver only 38 grams of CO2 per kilometer, with an average of just 120 g/km emitted by the entire chauffeur fleet. The renewable fuel is locally produced from waste materials and transported through the natural gas network to the CNG filling stations, which are 27 in Metropolitan Berlin and 901 nationwide (160 of which are delivering biomethane in percentages ranging from 10 to 100 percent).
“The price advantage of natural gas as fuel at the pump is unfortunately not obvious at first glance. The reason is the deceptive pricing. If you convert natural gas to the energy content of a litre of premium gasoline, the equivalent price is 0.65 to 0.70 € per litre,” said Timm Kehler, manager of erdgas mobil.
