Cochabamba has been a pioneer in the use of natural gas in its fleet and this year it will become the country’s first department with 100 percent of vehicles running on this fuel, reported local newspaper Cambio.
In 2012, the EEC-GNV program expects to switch about 34,000 vehicles to CNG nationwide, and will also expand the coverage of the state agency with more workshops all over the country. In addition, the scheme plans to include the conversion of vehicles that use diesel.
“About 15,000 vehicles were converted to natural gas in the country until November, and with the growth occurred in the last month we believe we have met -and perhaps exceeded- the target fixed for 2011, which was 20,000 conversions,” said Asport.
