“This is an investment with potential,” said Mike Liggins, P.E., BSU’s director of engineering. “BSU has 61 vehicles covering our 60-square-mile service area. The fleet consumes 50,000 gallons of gasoline a year. The switch to cleaner, less expensive compressed natural gas could provide significant long-term savings.”
The conversion cost is estimated at $44,000, which could be recouped in as little as three years, and potential benefits include lower fuel costs, longer engine lives and reduced emissions into the environment. The BSU vehicles are scheduled to be on the road of Bonita Springs City this summer.
“Starting with four vehicles lets us uncover any stumbling blocks, train staff on fueling procedures, and test reliability. This is important because ensuring uninterrupted service to our member-customers is a high priority,” added Liggins.
