The District received 75 project proposals that requested more than $375 million. Funding for the approved SCAQMD projects comes from the Competitive Power Ventures, Inc. (CPV) for emissions offsets needed to construct and operate CPV’s Sentinel power plant, now under construction in Desert Hot Springs.
Some of the recommended recipients are the Border Valley Trading, which would receive $900,000 for an LNG/CNG fueling station; the City of Desert Hot Springs, $1,024,641, for CNG vehicles and station upgrade; the City of Coachella, $2,120,000, for CNG station/solar carport; the Desert Sands Unified School District, $174,250, for CNG station upgrade; and the St. Elizabeth’s of Hungary Food Pantry, $53,995, for the purchase of CNG food delivery vehicles.
In November, the SCAQMD allocated $32.9 million for natural gas and propane buses for 30 Southern California school districts, to replace older diesel school buses in their fleets.
