AmeriGas, the nation’s largest retail propane supplier, will more than double its propane autogas medium-duty fleet. It purchased 50 new ROUSH CleanTech Ford F-550s equipped with cranes to deliver propane tanks to customer sites across the nation in addition to the 35 that were deployed at the end of 2013. “We are excited to transition to a cleaner, domestic and value-priced alternative fuel. As a propane marketer, we strongly believe in the autogas initiative,” said Jay Massey, corporate fleet manager for AmeriGas.
The company’s autogas fleet demonstrates the viability of propane as an on-road vehicle fuel, lessens noise in neighborhoods being serviced, and lowers harmful emissions. Over the lifetime of the Ford F-550 vehicles, more than 12.7 million pounds of carbon dioxide will be eliminated from AmeriGas’ total carbon footprint.
Moreover, Alliance AutoGas, propane vehicle converter, has introduced a Ford F-650/F-750 tractor featuring new product innovation: the Bi-Fuel AutoGas System. Westport’s Prins VSI system “plug and play” conversion on the 2016 Ford F650/F-750 requires no intake manifold drilling, cutting, or splicing of wiring.
This conversion features: lower cost than its diesel or dedicated propane counterparts, reduction of fleet operating costs by as much as 30%, new Bobtail conversion at a lower cost than its diesel counterpart; increased range while reducing fuel costs, and ‘best in class’ warranty of five years or 100,000 miles. In addition, the plug and play conversion greatly improves efficiency reducing the propane system’s installation time by half -about six hours- compared to a typical 12 to 14-hour installation time for any predecessor.
Alliance AutoGas is also developing a Ford Explorer police vehicle, a Ford Transit (close to EPA certification) and an Isuzu NPR with the same Bi Fuel Autogas System warranty and efficient plug and play system installation.
