“It’s a partnership that is taking both parts to a new height, starting a new standard for sustainability in food trucks,” said Bloomberg, who spoke to a crowd gathered in front of the new eco-friendly vehicle. “It is the lowest carbon emission food truck of its size ever built and by using CNG it produces almost three-quarters less in greenhouse gas emissions than trucks run on gasoline or diesel; it also reduces fuel costs by about 60 percent.”
Equipped with 900 degree oven capable to cook a pizza in 90 seconds, the vehicle is the first of its kind, according to Neapolitan founder Max Crespo. “We are proud to say that we are the first and only mobile restaurant entirely powered by natural gas. Together we can make this growing industry clean and green,” he said.
Mayor Bloomberg showed its support to compressed natural gas, considering it a “far cleaner alternative to diesel fuel,” as well as to “new smart regulations” that allow to tap into the country’s supply of natural gas safely and responsibly. He also said New York City already operates three CNG fueling stations, which together serve 128 vehicles from the Department of Sanitation.
