The buses were manufactured by Thomas Built and are expected to save $100,000 annually in fuel costs. As the fleet runs quietly, it will improve conditions for neighborhoods surrounding Parkway’s transportation center. Besides, the bus’ flat front ends making it easier for bus drivers to see students walking to and from the bus.
“We are one of only two districts (the other one is in the Kansas City area) in the state currently using CNG buses and one of only a few CNG fueling stations in the entire region,” said Parkway Schools in its statement.
Parkway will celebrate this exciting effort with a CNG Bus Dedication: “Growing Up Green.” The event will be held at Parkway West High School on April 3.
