New Flyer of America Inc. announced that the Xcelsior® XE35 and XE40 battery electric buses are now eligible for the California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP). This program was launched by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to speed the early market introduction of clean, low-carbon hybrid and electric vehicles and is administered and implemented through a partnership with CALSTART.
The base HVIP voucher amount is $95,000 per bus. Additional rebate incentives are available for bus fleets operating in disadvantaged communities ($15,000), purchase of rapid chargers ($20,000), extended warranties ($2,000) and an additional $10,000 per bus applied to the first three purchases of electric buses.
Moreover, New Flyer will demonstrate the technical and performance features of the New Flyer Xcelsior® XE40 transit bus to local councilors and government officials in several cities throughout the south eastern United States. The tour will consist of bus demonstrations in: Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Florida and Texas.
“This bus is built on our highly successful Xcelsior platform and is the logical evolution of our zero-emissions propulsion portfolio, based on our extensive electrification experience,” commented Paul Smith, New Flyer’s Executive Vice-President of Sales and Marketing.
