“Allowing the construction and operation of new LNG facilities and the lower emissions resulting from burning natural gas as a fuel will provide significant benefits to the environment and public health. The regulations are designed to have minimal impacts on local governments and will result in job creation. Construction of new fueling facilities across the state will build on Governor Cuomo’s agenda to augment the economy and generate good-paying jobs for New Yorkers,” said Martens.
Several companies looking to build LNG fueling stations or power their fleets with the fuel have pushed the Legislature to lift the storage ban –established in response to an explosion at an LNG facility in Staten Island in 1973- over the past two years.
