India: 4,000 autorickshaws will be converted to CNG
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to switch at least this amount of vehicles from petrol to compressed natural gas. The civic body will install the kits, according to standing committee chairperson Sandeep Joshi. These will be the first autorickshaws to be powered by methane around the city.
"The cost of one kit is Rs 11,000 (US$240). But autorickshaw drivers will get it at Rs 6,000 (US$130)," Joshi stated. Times of India reported that NMC will provide Rs 5,000 (nearly US$110) as subsidy for each CNG piece of equipment.
The NMC will provide four plots of land owned by it to establish natural gas fuelling stations. In addition, the civic body has approached Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) for the installation of six more facilities.
Besides that, natural gas companies have also agreed to set up CNG pumps in the city. There have been received 10 proposals from different firms that expect to start business in places such as Amravati Road, West High Court Road, Central Avenue, Wardha Road y Kamptee Road.
