Mahindra targets commercial fleets and transporters with its latest NGV variant
The Indian automaker is gearing up to intensify competition in the mini truck segment to homegrown rival Tata Motors, which is currently leading the market with its Ace model. "We are committed towards sustainable mobility and environment, and this launching is one more step in that direction," said Mahindra & Mahindra senior vice president of marketing (automotive sector), Vivek Nayer.
The 25.6 hp, 0.85-tonne payload mini-truck, which also competes with the Piaggio Ape Mini, was launched at Rs 3.99 lakh (USD 7,000). It is aimed at providing a better value proposition to transporters and small businessmen for last-mile deliveries over diesel-powered light commercial vehicles. With car-like design for increased comfort, the CNG Maxximo offers lower cost of operation with a 19 km/liter fuel efficiency, informed The Hindu Business Line.
Moreover, M&M is optimistic that it would be able to add more customers from the Delhi and National Capital Region with the new eco-friendly model. "Delhi-NCR has benefited greatly from a policy thrust which leverages the potential of inexpensive and clean fuel like natural gas," stressed Mahindra’s executive.
The market of CNG vehicles sub-two tone segment in Delhi-NCR was at 9,000 units in the last fiscal, and it is expected to grow to 11,000 units this year, according to Nayer.
