Spain: CNG station at Madrid-Barajas airport may be completed by 2013
Aena Aeropuertos received the final plan last month and Dragados SA is expected to begin the construction, which may last eight months, in the coming weeks. This fueling facility will provide natural gas to vehicle fleet operating within the country’s main airport terminal, and will represent significant savings in operating costs and a strong reduction of pollutant emissions from these vehicles.
Designed by the engineering company Ciete under Dragados expert supervision, the project includes a Central Station from where natural gas will be delivered to four additional Satellite Stations strategically distributed throughout the area of Madrid-Barajas airport.
The Central Station will receive the gas from an Enagás delivery point located within the lot of Aena Aeropuertos. From there, the fluid will be circulated through a valve to the Regulating and Metering Station (ERM) that filters, regulates and measures the amount of gas consumed. The ERM will connect two gas compressors, and the fuel will eventually be distributed to six dual-hose dispensers.
For the supply of the four Satellite Stations, Ciete has designed a system to transport the gas cylinders, located in the main station. There will be six platforms with six storage modules, strategically distributed in the station, to serve each of the four Satellite Stations, which will be located so that they can service all vehicles and areas in the airport.
