Brazil: Angra Dos Reis' first natural gas filling station serves 500 NGVs daily
The CNG offered at the refueling facility, which is located in this city in Costa Verde region, state of Rio de Janeiro, is supplied by a truck operated by the company NEOgás. As a result, the inhabitants of the area already take advantage of this energy option, which means that they get a 75% discount in the cost of the tax on vehicles’ property (IPVA, as in its Portuguese acronym), achieve a higher vehicle performance and reduce environmental pollution.
The Costa Verde station has a supply capacity of 150,000 cubic meters per month and is fully prepared to meet a demand of 2,300 CNG powered vehicles, which is actually the amount of NGVs that operate over city’s routes nowadays.
The construction of the station, which is located in the neighborhood of Japuíba, involved an investment of approximately R$ 4.5 million (over USD 2.2 million). The amount of work at the eight conversion centers already operational in the city has been larger since
the opening of the CNG station.
According to data published by local media, the demand for natural gas has increased even though its cost in Angra Dos Reis is 6% higher than in the other refueling stations around the state of Rio de Janeiro.
