Malaysia: Petronas plans to open 10 CNG stations in the next two years
With this addition, the company will total 184 fueling sites nationwide to service natural gas vehicles by 2014. According to Petronas CEO Akbar Md Thayoob, this initiative is in line with the increase in the use of the gaseous fuel, involving 50,000 NGVs this year (90 per cent are taxis).
"The use of compressed natural gas in the country increases by five per cent each year," said Thayoob after a Petronas NGV Safety Awareness Campaign, held in the city of Malacca.
The campaign, organized by Petronas in collaboration with the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, was also attended by Petronas NGV Sdn Bhd chairman Pramod Kumar Karunakaran and the ministry's director in Malacca, Muhabir Ibrahim.
Petronas NGV Sdn Bhd currently operates 174 natural gas stations nationwide, seven in Malacca, reported the news agency Bernama.
