Iran increases its fuel distribution capacity
So far 1,820 compressed natural gas filling stations have become operational across the country and the figure is expected to hit 2,000 by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20). According to Mehr News Agency, distribution capacity of CNG increased to 2 million normal cubic meters per hours.
“Iran ranked first among Asian nations in terms of establishment and development of (CNG) stations,” said managing director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Jalil Salari. He also referred to the rapid development of NGV industry during the fourth and fifth five-year plans and said the country's first rank in Asia pertains to the number of CNG outlets.
Currently, 10,550 CNG nozzles are used in filling stations while more than 2,600,000 natural gas powered vehicles are on Iran’s roads. With $4 billion worth of investments made by the government and private sector, CNG comprises about 25 percent of fuel basket of the country.
About 18 million cubic meters of natural gas are presently being supplied to CNG stations per day and this helps the country to save a daily volume of 18 million liters of gasoline.
