Colombia: mayor of Santa Cruz de Lorica plans to introduce CNG in the city
Francisco Jattin Corrales recently met with local businessman Alfonso Cuesta Medrano and a representative of the company Gazel to discuss the implementation of natural gas for vehicles in Lorica, department of Cordoba. Currently, local NGVs owners fuel in the cities of Cereté or Monteria.
Santa Cruz de Lorica’s mayor expressed his support for the initiative, which includes the installation and launching of a CNG station. According to Jattin Corrales, it will not only be a progress for the region, but it also will generate more jobs. In addition, 85 percent of Lorica’s fleet would be willing to switch to natural gas, reducing by half the annual costs on fuel, reported El Meridiano de Córdoba.
Furthermore, Medrano Cuesta, owner of Servicentro Lorica (where the CNG pump will be installed), said the idea is that this filling station serves local drivers and also those who cross the city to the rest of the Caribbean Region. This is because there is no fueling point that provides the service between Cereté and Cartagena, taking the main route that goes through Lorica.
The construction of the station would take about three months, while Gazel would install a conversion workshop in Lorica. The project will be reviewed this week by the Municipal Planning secretary Luis Medina Martínez, who agreed with the mayor and stakeholders to introduce the service as long as it meets the standards to make it viable.
