India’s largest car manufacturer announced on Friday the launch of the 7-seater utility vehicle natural gas variant, coinciding with the Environment month, June 2013. With this introduction, the model will now be available in all three fuel options: CNG, petrol and diesel. It is the only factory fitted NGV in its segment.

A number of towns and cities in England will benefit from this funding which aims to reduce pollution from local buses. Local authorities will be able to bid for grants of up to £1 million from the Department for Transport’s Clean Bus Technology Fund. This will allow them to upgrade local buses with pollution-reducing technologies such as cleaner engines or exhaust after-treatment equipment.

China’s capital city currently has 2,000 vehicles powered by natural gas, and that number is expected to reach 10,000 by the end 2013, which will include 2,000 taxis, 3,143 city buses, and vehicles for some driving schools, according to the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau.

The launch of new brand name Iveco Bus coincided with the world premiere of its newest model, the Urbanway, the first of the brand’s vehicles to be offered with a Euro VI engine. This technology features the patented FPT Industrial HI-eSCR system, which reduces NOx without the use of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) which leaves fuel efficiency intact.

L'Hospitalet de Llobregat unveiled last week the new contract for cleaning and management of parks and green areas of the city, which includes the deployment of 66 vehicles, thirteen of which weigh more than 3,500 kilos of tonnage and run on CNG. This will reduce emissions of harmful substances to the environment by 80%. The company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas was the successful bidder.

The fleet, based at the retailer’s Emerald Park Distribution Centre in Bristol, is serving stores and depots in Wales and the South West. A dedicated on site filling station has also been put in place to enhance fueling efficiency and allow a larger number of natural gas vehicles to enter Sainsbury’s fleet over time.

Two of the five natural gas powered vehicles acquired for the city were delivered yesterday by the Road Administration (Maanteeamet). The other three are CNG hybrids and are expected to be shipped as soon as they arrive from the factory. Besides, a LNG filling station is under construction and will be opened in the short term in Narva, where this kind of environmentally friendly buses will be deployed as well.
