After New Delhi and Navi Mumbai

Mumbai becomes third Indian city that tests Volvo 8400 low-floor CNG bus

Trials are run by local transport company BEST and Volvo Buses, which currently has coaches operating in 13 cities across the country, and the bus design is an outcome of the close collaboration between product designers in Sweden and India. Ashok Patil, chairman of Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) flagged off the bus from Oshiwara depot.

Following the successful trials in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai, the Volvo 8400 low-floor CNG city bus will now run in a new city. “We are confident that passengers in Mumbai will experience the quality, comfort and motivation to travel that this bus offers,” said Akash Passey, senior vice president of Business Region International at Volvo Bus Corporation and chairman of the Board at Volvo Buses in India.

The Volvo CNG city, which is being built at the automaker’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Hoskote near Bangalore, has an ideal power-to-weight ratio in its class while a perfectly matched driveline enhances the driving performance. In turn, the low-entry at the front and in the middle makes it easy to get on and off, even for passengers with disabilities.

“Volvo Buses’ understanding of the customer and passenger needs has reflected in the kind of products it has developed for Indian cities. The Volvo 8400 low-floor CNG city bus has been adapted for specific needs and is an effective solution to address sustainable public transport and clean technology concerns,” added Passey.
