There are over 1,500,000 authorized NGVs in operation on Argentina’s roads

The country’s CNG-powered fleet is composed mostly of private cars (95.09% of the total) with 1,436,665 vehicles. Pick-ups represent 3% (45,313) and taxis 1.77% (25,783). In the last six months of last year, private vehicles increased by 3%, and pick-ups dropped by almost 2%, while the percentage of taxis remained unchanged. In addition, there are 827 government cars, of which 584 operate in the national capital and in the province of Buenos Aires. In the same area, there are 21,294 taxis.

According to the statistical report released by the CNG Management of the National Gas Regulatory Agency (Enargas, as its Spanish acronym), there are 1,510,839 (50,000 more than in July 2011) vehicles with Enargas certification sticker, which can refuel at 1,890 filling stations in 19 Argentine provinces and the City of Buenos Aires.

Furthermore, there are 112 CNG Equipment Producers (PECs, as its Spanish acronym), of which over 38% are located in the province of Buenos Aires (43). In the last six months of 2011, five new companies were authorized to operate as PECs in the country.

According to data provided by Enargas, Argentina has 1,096 authorized conversion workshops. Besides the Capital City, 18 of the country’s 23 provinces offer CNG conversions. Buenos Aires area, which is in the top of the list with 482 conversion centers, has almost half of the country’s facilities.

Cylinders are another important piece in the NGV market, and must be reviewed every five years. In total, there are 13 provinces, besides the City of Buenos Aires, authorized to identify when a storage tank may or may not continue operating.
