State-owned entities, T&T National Petroleum Marketing Company Ltd (NP) and the Vehicle Management Company of T&T (VMCOTT), have embarked on a $7 million agreement to establish the first compressed natural gas station at VMCOTT facilities, Beetham Highway, Port-of-Spain. The VMCOTT site is strategically positioned on the Priority Bus Route to encourage maxi-taxi drivers to switch to CNG, reported Trinidad Guardian.

The agreement between the German biofuels company and the city’s municipal utility was reached at a conference in Berlin last month. Verbio will supply these natural gas refueling stations in the eastern German city of Leipzig with biomethane.

The distribution and refueling facility is located in the city of Calderara di Reno, in the province of Bologna. By means of a high-pressure pump, the compressed natural gas comes from a LNG storage filled by a cryogenic tanker from Barcelona’s terminal. The company estimates that sales will reach 1 million kilos of CNG per year.

The world natural gas producer’s subsidiary operates two CNG outlets in the country, also established along with the German NGV association, and now plans to open four more facilities: two will be located in Berlin, one in Quedlinburg and one in Potsdam. Besides, another four fueling points are expected to be completed next year.

Located in Ivirgarzama, Cochabamba, next to the bi-oceanic highway, one of the sites involved an investment of $513,000. Meanwhile, CNG station in Villa Montes, which will benefit Tarija and the whole country’s transportation, involved an investment of $584,000. Both pumps opened by Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos also offer traditional fuels.

The company is extending the compression capability of its fueling station on the ‘Ecosite de Vert-le-Grand/Echarcon’ to meet the growing number of NGVs operated by Semaer –the group’s fully-owned subsidiary that dedicates to the collection of household and industrial waste and the operation of waste collection centers.
