The President of Peru Pedro Pablo Kuczynski said that the widespread adoption of natural gas throughout the country will be possible thanks to the commissioning of this truck loading system implemented by Peru LNG and located in Cañete. “This is a success, now the natural gas will reach more regions in the country, because currently it only reaches Lima and Ica,” said the president during the inauguration of the LNG Truck Loading Terminal in Pampa Melchorita.
The US$ 17-million terminal will operate through the mobile gas pipeline system, which will allow the loading of 15 tanker trucks daily to supply regasification stations in the north and southwest of Peru, boosting the use of natural gas in these regions. The terminal will take the fuel to the cities of Chimbote, Trujillo, Huaraz, Cajamarca Chiclayo, Lambayeque and Pacasmayo, in the north; and to Moquegua, Ilo, Arequipa and Tacna, in the south.
This project is expected to benefit more than 200,000 people in the first eight years of LNG distribution, providing an alternative to petroleum-derived fuels, which will enable companies and families to save up to 50% on fuel costs. In addition, the use of LNG will help reduce environmental pollution, by being cleaner than other fuels, and will increase security of supply in transportation, homes and industries, among other sectors.
The president stressed the importance of energy for the modernization of the country, which will make the regions of southern and northern Peru more competitive. “We want Peru to be a modern country and energy is fundamental to reach this goal,” he said.
