The project is part of the Gas-for-Petrol schemeAccording to the program released a few days ago by the city government, 2,500 natural gas buses will be deployed -half of the entire fleet- by the end of the 12th Five-Year Plan, with about 10 filling stations. In addition, there will be 3,500 dual-fueled taxis (petrol and CNG), accounting for 70% of the total, with 15 to 20 facilities providing the two fuels. Finally, about 500 container trucks will run on natural gas, 40% of Ningbo Port fleet, with 3 to 4 outlets providing LNG.
The government of Ningbo aims to improve air quality in the city, where there are over one million motor vehicles, and replace petrol use with clean-burning natural gas, which can reduce toxic gases by 85 percent and noise by 40 percent.
