The fully owned European subsidiary of Chart Industries has signed a contract to supply the on-board LNG fuelling system, including the storage tank, piping and control system as well as the bunkering system, to the fast ferry that is being built by Incat, in Australia.

Under an agreement between Eidesvik Offshore and Lundin Norway, the new supply ship will be delivered from Kleven Verft 30th of March 2012 and replace Viking Athene, which will be released from duty from the same date. Viking Prince was named in an official ceremony in Aalesund on March 23rd.

The company has already developed concepts for a hybrid-electric passenger jet and now, under the project SUGAR (Subsonic Ultra Green Aircraft Research) Freeze, it has unveiled its plans for an aircraft powered by natural gas, reported Aviation Week. Boeing’s idea is being supported by NASA, whose specialists think that airlines will be using this technology by 2045.

Manuel Lage talked about the potential of this fuel and said it will be gaining more popularity and importance in the years to come as many organizations are now investigating the business case and considering different ways of investment and use of this technology. “LNG has a huge future ahead,” he said.

With strategically placed filling stations, Volvo Trucks aims to make the fuel more widely available and a competitive alternative to diesel. "When it comes to long-haul transport with heavy vehicles, no other alternatives can match LNG at present," said Manuel Lage, general manager of NGVA Europe. "We feel it is the perfect solution for long-distance transport needs."
