Peru: Executive Branch submitted bill to spread natural gas consumption
As it was announced yesterday, the Federal Government decided to transfer S/.200 million (approximately USD 76 million) from the Supervisory Board for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) to the Social Inclusion Energy Fund Energy (FISE). According to the document presented to Congress, the money will be exclusively allocated for the natural gas supply expansion across the regions to be determined by the Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM).
A few days ago, during his statement addressed to Congress as part of the 191° Anniversary of the National Independence, President of the Republic Ollanta Humala Tasso had told in advance that the scheme will give priority to "the Andean poorest regions such as Junín, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurímac, Cusco and Puno."
The initiative includes transporting the natural gas by pipeline or in its liquefied and compressed forms. At the same time, electricity distribution companies are empowered to run natural gas related programs, including its distribution over their concession areas, pursuant to the current regulation, Andina news agency reported.
Minister of Energy and Mining Jorge Merino Tafur also spoke about the project, which includes output valves in Ayacucho and Kepashiato. "That gives us the opportunity to provide natural gas right over the poorest Andean areas, covering Huancayo, Huancavelica, Abancay, Andahuaylas, Puno, Cusco and Juliaca," he said, and then added: "A compression station will be installed at these valves, and with this station we will call for tenders for carrying the natural by trucks to all these cities, where CNG pumps will be to sell cheap fuel to both transport small industry sectors."
