Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Nguyen Vu Truong Son, Vice President of Petrovietnam State Oil and Gas Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in natural gas for vehicles market. The agreement ceremony took place in the presence of Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Nguyen Tan Dung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Russian leader highlighted this week the importance of promoting the use of methane as a fuel in the country and also discussed measures for the development of this energy source for cars. The agenda focused on its expansion, “which will lead to increased energy efficiency, lower transportation costs and better environment, especially in big cities,” he stated. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has also called for a CNG-driven mobility enhancement.

The President of the state-owned oil and gas company Igor Sechin and General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus Markus Osegowitsch signed an agreement intended for the development of the compressed natural gas business in the country. It includes the expansion of filling infrastructure, upgrading Rosneft fueling stations with methane provision, as well as introducing NGVs from Volkswagen, Audi and Škoda.

The partnership between Hyundai Colombia and the Italian company NGV Motori, which installs conversion kits in the South Korean firm’s free zone in Cali, enabled the production of a completely improved City Taxi Plus model. The vehicle, which is powered by a 1.1, 68 hp engine and with five-speed mechanical transmission, is available in either gasoline or natural gas versions, with factory warranty for the same price.

According to chairman of the NEC, Roop Chan Chadeesingh, the company has embarked on a campaign to boost natural gas vehicle conversions in the country. Neal and Massy Administrative Ltd recently delivered the first seven of a fleet of 22 NGVs to be used by NEC employees.

The demand for natural gas vehicles increased almost 60 percent in the first quarter of 2013 compared with the same period in the previous year, according to data reported recently by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority. This fact was highlighted by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (DENA) – the German Energy Agency – and the "Initiative for Natural-Gas-Based Mobility" that recommend extending the tax reductions for CNG and biomethane beyond 2018 and stating the fuel prices at filling stations using energy content values to make the benefits clear to users.

A project led by Efigas, and supported by Ecopetrol, Gazel, private filling stations and workshops, is promoting CNG conversions in the municipalities of the region known as Eje Cafetero with discount vouchers that can be used in the authorized facilities and linked to the program to install CNG kits. The incentive initiative includes conversion of private or public transport vehicles and is valid until December 31, according to the newspaper Crónica del Quindío.
