Tulsa Transit received $12.2 million through two grants in 2009 to begin switching its fleet to CNG-powered vehicles. Fifteen of the agency’s 60 long, fixed-route buses were already replaced earlier this year with new NGVs. Besides, Tulsa Transit has recently opened its first CNG fueling station at its headquarters.
Furthermore, the Houston-based natural gas producer is building what will be a canopied, multipump station S. Vandalia Ave., also in Tulsa. The $1 million project is one of four public CNG fueling points Apache is adding companywide. The others will be located in Houston and Midland, Texas; and Lafayette, Louisiana.
Apache’s facility in Tulsa, which should be completed and open by late January, will have lighting for nighttime fueling, two pumps for the general public and another for fleet vehicles in the back of the lot, reported Tulsa World. “This will be a good start for full-on public CNG stations,” said Tim Tomlinson, NGV operation manager for Apache Corp. “We’re hoping we can do some more.”
