Therefore, the figures provided by this agency show the following evolution of 2011 monthly conversions: January 8,967; February 7,698; March 9,330; and April 11,076. Making a comparison between the last two months mentioned, there was an increase of almost 20 percent in kits installations. Registers from May have not been yet disclosed.
Another sign indicating that the figures continue to rise is the average of monthly conversions: while 8,867 units were switched to CNG in 2010, 9,268 were converted in 2011 so far.
Key members of the local NGV industry agree that 2011 will be a year with a significant growth in conversions. According to them, the increasing international price of oil, the availability of new technologies regarding natural gas for vehicles and the lack of regular gasoline at local fuelling stations contribute to this trend.
So far, the total conversions to CNG accumulated over the years in Argentina amounted to 1,964,078 vehicles.
It is worth mentioning that the International NGV Congress & Gaseous Fuels Conference and the V ExpoGNC 2011 will be held on November 10-12 in Buenos Aires under the theme “Towards economical and sustainable transportation.” For further information, visit www.expognc.com.
