The 15,000 free conversions performed between January and June 2013 throughout the country involved an investment of at least US$10 million, the official said. He also commented that his agency invests around 120 million BOB (US$ 17 million) annually in the conversion program, an amount that is funded with an additional charge of 0.20 cents BOB per cubic meter of CNG.
According to Vega, natural gas for vehicles offers four key benefits to users: it saves money on fuel costs, reduces pollution on the environment, keeps engines in good conditions and is safe for the public transport of passengers, contrary to what happens with LPG.
It is worth adding that the EEC-GNV recently announced a plan with new policies and conditions for the energy grid change and added diesel vehicles to the scheme, after free conversions implemented in public transport, state-owned and private fleets. The entity representative in Santa Cruz region Manuel Asebey reported that 500 mass transit vehicles will be part of the pilot project.
