As it was published by the local newspaper Jornal Cruzeiro do Sul, the company that supplies 12 cities in San Pablo also has recorded a rising demand for natural gas. It grew from 42,000 to 44,000 cubic meters in the last-mentioned period.
Regarding conversions to CNG, Gas Natural Fenosa certified 26 kits installed in September 2010, whereas monthly average of kits installation reached 106 this year.
Increasing demand was also noticed by workshops workers, which describe October as “the best month of the year,” not only in conversions figures but also in budgets requested.
Conversion centers’ owners also forecast that this year-end number will imply a significant growth compared to the previous one because ethanol prices are expected to rise over the next months.
A survey carried out by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP, in Portuguese) in Sorocaba city verified that the average price of a liter of gasoline is USD 1.5 and ethanol USD 1.03, whereas the cubic meter of natural gas costs USD 0.92.
Gas Natural Fenosa director in San Pablo, Armando Lautório believes that performance is another reason that encourages drivers to turn to CNG. “The relationship indicates that an NGV is able to run 14 kilometers with a liter of fuel, a diesel one needs a liter to ride 10 kilometers and a vehicle fueled by alcohol runs just 7 kilometers,” said the businessman.
