The distribution companies in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Gas Natural /CEG y CEG-Rio, published the benefits of methane on a web page (www.usegnv.com.br), which details the profits, usefulness and performance that CNG can provide to drivers.
According to Compagas, the state of Parana -in the southern region of the country- has 29,000 NGVs and 34 CNG stations, 23 of them in Curitiba, the state capital city. In a press release, the gas supplier compares the prices of natural gas to liquid fuels and the savings that motorists could obtain is round about 52%. Furthermore, CNG-powered cars have a 60% discount on the vehicle property tax. According to the company’s calculation, in a two year period a driver saves the equivalent money of a car.
A small state in northeastern Brazil, called Alagoas, has launched a promotion for those drivers who install a CNG kit or buy an OEM NGV, from February 1 to April 30. They will receive 300 m3 of fuel as a gift to drive about 3,000 kilometres. The initiative was planned by Algás, which has six CNG stations in the interior of the nation.
