The congressman asked ministries involved to take into consideration the possibility of permitting private vehicles to be converted to CNG system and offering soft loans in order to encourage transition, making this “a reasonable alternative for everyone in Chile.”
In a similar vein, Senator Muñoz presented in 2006 a bill, currently shelved, which provides special rules for the conversion of vehicles to CNG. Although the proposed motion did not advance, the politician believes that “this is the right time to bring it back into action, because obviously there is a great disservice to car owners, and particularly for those who use vehicles as a mean of working. The gasoline price has risen sharply and international values are too variable; since we are importing a lot of oil and its price does not decrease, the situation is becoming untenable for car owners’ pockets.”
