The project that seeks to provide CNG to vehicle fleet in Riohacha is taking shape thanks to an initiative of the National Government, through the Ministry of Mining and Energy, with the support of the Mayor of Riohacha and the Government of La Guajira. In addition, companies like Ecopetrol, Chevron, Promigas, Gascaribe, Gases de La Guajira and Terpel have endorsed the project.
The pilot plan, which will allow the initial supply of the gaseous fuel, will benefit 500 taxis, whose cost of conversion to natural gas will be assumed by the Municipality of Riohacha and the Department of La Guajira.
“Late last year we signed an agreement with different actors in the natural gas chain to encourage the use of CNG in La Guajira. Today we see we are closer to meet our goal,” Minister of Mining and Energy Amylkar Acosta Medina said regarding to one policy action aimed at the widespread use of NGVs in different regions of the country.
For Riohacha, when using natural gas consumers may access a vehicle fuel whose price is up to 40% below the price of gasoline, which makes it very competitive and beneficial to drivers.
The Ministry of Mining and Energy also hopes to bring this NGV program to the department of Cesar to achieve full coverage of CNG supply in the Caribbean region.
