During the certification ceremony, Minister José del Castillo Saviñón said the number of conversions achieved represents a vote of confidence in the use of CNG, which is a more convenient option because it generates savings and due to its ecological benefits. The Dominican Republic’s first vehicle conversion to natural gas was performed in April 2011.
According to an article published by Hoy news website, the government continues evaluating the national NGV program, whose goal is to convert both the government and public transport fleets.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce has already granted more than 100 permits to install natural gas refueling stations. Currently, the country has 14 sites in operation, 10 of which are located in the capital city, three in Santiago and one in Bonao. In the short term, there will be new facilities opened in San Pedro and on the Las Americas highway.
Regarding the authorized conversion workshops, there are 30 in operation and approximately 80 additional permits granted, Salvador Rivas said, as reported by 7 Días.
