“65 percent of savings is really significant on a daily basis. For example, a taxi driver who used to spend 120 pesos (USD 27) per shift now spends about 70 pesos (USD 16) with CNG,” explained Ángel Pérez, partner and head of the mechanical division at the filling station mentioned, the only one currently supplying natural gas to consumers in Comodoro Rivadavia city. The businessman told local newspaper Diario Patagónico that rising number of conversions “is not only due to a remarkable hike in the price of gasoline, but also to the limited availability of premium gasoline.”
Meanwhile, station executive Sergio Kail stated that within the first year of operations, the refueling point used to serve only 70 CNG-powered vehicles, whereas between 2010 and 2011 there was a quantum leap, “after the price of gasoline have started increasing.” He stressed that the company provided with information to drivers who had doubts about the operation of the system: “CNG is safer than gasoline,” he summarized.
In addition to the refueling station in Comodoro Rivadavia, the province of Chubut has two other natural gas dispensing points, one located in Trelew and the other in Puerto Madryn.
