The interest of taxi drivers is to implement an alternative to gasoline, while the Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons describes CNG as a convenient option considering the natural gas reserves located in the Gulf. He said he would meet with experts from the Ministry to review the proposal and decide what is best for the taxi drivers of El Oro.
Jose Ycaza stated that he will collect information on the number of taxis currently operating in the province by districts. He will also calculate consumption and establish the demand for natural gas. According to this basis, conversion kits and the right technology will be defined.
Moreover, prefect Montgómery Sánchez said that implementing natural gas as a public transportation fuel is a good option from the environmental and social point of view, and recalled that in other countries the use of this fuel is already supported and encouraged.
