It is worth mentioning that Egypt was the first country in Africa & the Middle East to bring about a pilot project in connection with the use of natural gas as a transportation fuel in 1985. To encourage people to convert their vehicles to CNG, the Ministry of Petroleum has fixed the gas selling price and the conversion fees starting 1995 up to date.
Mass transit has also started adopting CNG as an alternative fuel in Egypt, where two new CNG bus fueling stations at a cost of L.E. 20 million (over USD 3,300,000) will be soon opened in Cairo, in addition to others previously inaugurated in Cairo and Alexandria. Several other natural gas refueling stations are scheduled to be set up during this year.
