The Department of Environment aims to reduce greenhouse gas pollution and particles in the region from road transport vehicles by providing grants to purchase brand new taxis for Cantabria’s streets. These must be powered by alternative energies such as compressed natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, electrically powered from batteries and hybrids.
According to the BOC, the reasons for replacing the use of gasoline respond not only to the need of reducing transportation impact on the environment but also to the advisability of increasing the security of energy supply. The Gazette also mentioned that the “alternative energies” will enable a decrease of noise, which mainly benefits the urban population.
This call will allocate a total of 20,000 Euros and the acquisitions eligible to receive the financial support must have or had taken place between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011. In turn, funded vehicles must operate as taxis during a period of at least 4 years since the granting of the license.
