Besides rising from 38,796 to 64,548 in a nine-month period, the number of people converting their gasoline-powered cars and SUVs to CNG in Mumbai has grown almost four times over the past year and a half and 16 times over the past six years.
“Four-wheeler owners can save around 50% to 70% of their fuel and maintenance costs, besides helping cut air pollution,” said a source who works closely with MGL. “And the cost of these fittings can be recovered in eight months.”
As published by The Times of India, a CNG conversion center in Navi Mumbai usually receives at least four vehicles a day for kit installation. However, owners of local workshops expect the number of fueling stations to grow as it is necessary to encourage more conversions.
