The town bus services in Agartala had been withdrawn in 1988. “The introduction of 75 passenger buses, some of them air-conditioned, would be a special bonanza for the city dwellers and puja revellers before the ensuing Durga Puja festival,” stressed Dey.
The new buses started to run in the beginning of October. A fleet of 38 buses were handed to operators under the Urban Transport Corporation in seven city routes and in the next few months 37 more units will be put into operation. The costs were funded by the Union Government (90%) and by the state government (10%).
