Mike Gallagher, from Westport Innovations, spoke about the growth of NGV market in the United States and Canada from 1995 to 2005. “The main point in President Obama’s program is to focus more on developing the adoption of CNG technologies among vehicles,” he stated in the presentation entitled “The Next 10 Years: Strategies and Tactics to Build the Industry to Scale.”
Later on, Michiel Nijboer, from International Energy Agency (France), considered all the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats of NGV system (“How to Successfully Promote the Introduction and Growth of Natural Gas Vehicles for a Low-Carbon Future” paper). “Especially biogas can make NGV a sustainable option. It can provide up to 15% of the whole production of vehicles in 2030,” he commented.
In turn, Giuseppe Miletto from Metatron (Italy) expound on “An Italian Example of Successful Cooperation between OEM and Components Supplier” (paper). With more than 500.000 systems sold to vehicle/engine manufacturers and with a yearly production capacity up to 200.000 units, the company he represents is 100% OEM market oriented. He stressed the importance of research and development in technological innovations.
