The council has heavily invested in green transportation and, if purchased, the trucks will join a fleet of 70 recycling and rubbish trucks. Among the vehicles that service the city, there are one exclusively powered by biomethane, which has travelled more than 20,000 miles and has recorded a 60 per cent reduction in harmful carbon emissions.
The introduction of the new bin wagons will also increase vehicle life expectancy and benefit from the green gas station built in Cross Green last March to refuel natural gas-powered vehicles, published The Yorkshire Evening Post.
Coun Mark Dobson, executive member for environmental services, said: “By significantly investing in these new greener, eco-friendly, fuel efficient vehicles, we will be able to ensure that we continue to deliver a safe, efficient and reliable collection service, while also driving up our recycling rates.”
