The official launching took place at ‘Integración Hospital’ station, one of the 20 stops of the main corridor or “line one”, and was attended by the manager of Metro de Medellín, Ramiro Marquez, and the Minister of Transportation, Germán Cardona Gutiérrez. “Metroplús is an example for Colombia,” said Cardona Gutiérrez during the act.
Initially, this mass transit system will cover the eastern area and will connect the University of Medellin with the University of Antioquia, ending at Parque Aranjuez (in the northwest), with exclusive traffic lanes for Metroplús buses and lateral routes for the other vehicles, published El Tiempo.
The first buses that will run today were fueled by Gazel, which will supply the CNG during this initial phase. According to the authorities of this company, with natural gas the city will save 45 percent in fuel costs while particulate emissions will be reduced by 94 percent, plus 40 percent reduction in noise pollution.
