The $3.5 million program, which will run through March 31, 2015, will provide a one-time credit for a refueling station and/or the purchase of NGVs, according to National Fuel’s petition. The financial assistance would be recovered through the future sales paid by the customer.
“The customer payback to switch to NGVs falls between four and eight years, and the development of the NGV program will make the project economics meet, or come closer to matching, customer expectations,” says National Fuels’ pilot project, developed with input provided by truck fleet customers to encourage the installation of NGV and/or associated facilities.
Moreover, the Commission said development and growth of NGVs can play an important role to improve the state’s energy profile, and this “unique pilot program in New York” can help demonstrate the economic feasibility and evaluate the impact on the utility infrastructure of CNG vehicles.
