Regarding projects in Port Authority of Allegheny County and River Valley Transit, Senator Casey said: “These grants will generate jobs and help make our transit systems cleaner. Natural gas has the potential to fuel economic development across the state, and I’m pleased that it will boost this development and ensure a future of clean transportation.”
River Valley Transit’s facility, to be operational in May 2012, is expected to provide the opportunity for commercial and public fleets to switch to natural gas, according to William E. Nichols Jr., the agency’s general manager. “It will provide tremendous benefits to the private and public sector,” he added. River Valley Transit operates its own 30-bus transit fleet and has plans to transition its entire fleet to CNG.
