According to a report published by Andina news agency, the projects related to natural gas conversion should ensure the efficient use of the fuel in public agencies and cover all feasible areas considering both technical and economic sides. As permitted by law, the projects may be implemented through contractual forms and procedures which promote investment.
To execute the Program, a Multi-sector Commission will be founded, as stated by the Executive Branch Act 29158.
Public agencies at national, regional and local levels will have the option to purchase new vehicles or convert the existing fleet to CNG.
The regulation, which comes into force today, highlights the importance of encouraging energy grid change to natural gas-based alternatives -thus redressing the oil trade balance in favor of the country- and creating a captive market for CNG in the automotive sector –e.g. factory-built NGVs.
In addition to its environmental and economic benefits, the introduction of fuel in public sector fleets would help grow the fuel demand and, consequently, make new distribution areas possible.
