He also made a comparison of liquefied natural gas characteristics with other conventional fuels. Currently, there are 37 LNG -powered vessels, most of them dedicated to traffic in Norway, and more than 30 ships are under construction.
Juan Ángel Terrón, director of engineering at the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT), gave a practical example of the use of natural gas in road transport: the EMT service. Terrón said the company, which uses alternative fuels for operations, introduced compressed natural gas in its fleet in 1994. Currently, 40% of its 2,000 buses run on natural gas.
Besides, José Poblet, GASNAM vice president, addressed the new energy efficiency initiatives with natural gas used by shipping as a fuel.
