IVECO Spain was present at the I National Meeting of Sustainable Transport Alternatives, organized by the logistics company Transcentro Marín, together with Grupo Pascual. On behalf of IVECO, the Director of Alternative Energies José María Chamizo participated as a speaker, analyzing the future of long-distance transport and the challenges facing this sector.
The opening ceremony featured Carlos Marín, Director of Transcentro Marín; Javier Peña, General Director of Grupo Pascual; Adolfo Muñiz, Mayor of Puertollano; José Manuel Caballero, President of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, Patricia Franco, Minister of Economy, Business and Employment of the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board; and Emiliano García-Page, President of the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board.
Chamizo highlighted the advantages offered by industrial and commercial vehicles that use natural gas compared to other alternative fuels due to their viability and competitiveness. “The pillars on which IVECO is designing the truck of the future are alternative propulsion, the autonomous vehicle and connectivity, and for this it has set clear objectives: zero emissions, 100% autonomous and 100% connected. It will be a long road, which will require the work of everyone, the manufacturers, the administration, the creators of infrastructure, as well as the clients,” he explained.
Regarding the scope of zero-emission transport, Chamizo pointed out: “Zero emissions are completely related to alternative propulsions. There are three types, and they will be used in the future depending on the mission. We have biomethane, it is a renewable gas that helps reduce emissions for both air quality and carbon footprint, and will be the best technology for long distance; it is a mature technology and 100% interchangeable with natural gas.”
“Electrification for urban and last-mile transport will also play a fundamental role, and finally hydrogen: it is already a mature technology in some sectors, it has been known for a long time and it is used for highly energy-demanding missions, for which will be key for the long distance,” he added.
IVECO, a pioneer in the use and development of natural gas in road transport, is committed to this type of sustainable fuel as the only real alternative available for long-distance and passenger transport, thanks to its energy balance, performance and reduction of emissions. The stocks of this fuel, as well as its availability, safety and savings, make natural gas a safe solution to meet the needs of carriers, whatever the type of mission.
